Whats Going On With the Scrap Prices?

Posted: December 2, 2024

wireA lot of people have been asking us what has been going on with the scrap prices lately and we wanted to go over it a little more in depth. Scrap prices in July 2015 have fallen to near 6-7 year lows on multiple different metals including aluminum and steel products.

Copper Price News

Copper prices have fallen too over the last year or so, but have not been hit quite as hard as other metal prices have. The copper price falling will affect multiple materials including: brass, insulated copper wire, bronze, and other copper bearing metals. The next question that people tend to ask is when are metal prices going back up….and if we knew that we would be retired on a beach already because predicting the future is a tough thing to do.

Ferrous Price News

Steel and Iron prices have taken a very large hit lately. Since the summer of 2014 the price for steel has dropped about 50-60% for many different items. Light iron and light tin prices have declined sharply and we have had a 500lb. minimum for all steel purchases lately.

With the market so low it is still very expensive for the metals to get moved around and that is part of the reason that the price of steel and iron has dropped. We tend to think that there will be a recovery later this year, but it will not recoup to the higher steel prices that we saw towards the end of 2014.
