Differences between Aluminum and Titanium

Posted: January 3, 2023

Aluminum and titanium can be difficult to differentiate as they have similar coloring. An easy way to tell if you have aluminum or titanium is to take it to a grinding wheel. Titanium will spark bright white, aluminum will not spark at all. We accept both metals and you can find updated prices on our website. Here are some differences between aluminum and titanium that might help you decipher the metals when scrapping.

Aluminum

  • Lightweight
  • Durable
  • Malleable
  • Non-sparking
  • Conductor of heat and electricity
  • Low cost

Titanium

  • Twice as strong as aluminum
  • Low ductility
  • High melting point
  • Higher resistance to corrosion
  • Not a good conductor
  • More expensive

Similarities

  • Non-magnetic
  • Reactive
  • Used to make alloys
  • Used in aerospace, marine and computer manufacturing
  • High crack resistance

If you are unsure of the type of metal you have keep it separated from other materials and bring it to our shop. We can take a look at it for you and let you know what it is and how much it is worth.
