Copper Prices Are All Over the Map

Posted: January 20, 2026

May-6-2013-scrap-copper-prices1It’s been a crazy ride in 2015 with all of the price changes. We recently sat down and went over the differences between 2014 and 2015 and there was not one major metal that was up over that time period. With the prices all over the map, it is tough to really tell what is going on and where things are going.

Scrap Metal Price Outlook

The team at Rockaway Recycling has talked to dozens of industry experts to get their ideas, insights, and general consensus as to what is going to be happening going forward the rest of 2015. The price on steel has been one of the biggest question marks because of the almost 60% drop in price since the summer of 2014. With steel prices dropping so much it has been a really crazy ride over the last 12 months and unfortunately it seems that the ride will be continuing for a while.

What’s Happening Overseas?

With the Asian markets, especially China, decreasing their demand, it has been very tough to gauge where the demand will be going forward. Because of the lack of demand for one of the largest steel consumers of the past 10 years, it will be tough to see much of an uptick going forward.

Many people enjoy having the gas prices being so low…but what a lot of people do not think about is what happens when the gas pricing is so low. It is great to fill up with cheap gas, but as one of, if not the heaviest traded commodity in the world, oil and gas has severely hurt the metals industry. Many mines have shut down over the last 6-12 months, and many more will shut down going forward.

Metals are still a great way to make a few extra bucks scrapping, and that is why we are always updating our prices online at www.RockawayRecycling.com, but you should know in advance that with the metal prices down you should prepare your material and watch our YouTube videos even more to get an idea about what is going on with the metals market.

You can always call us at 973.625.9560 and talk to Tom or one of the other guys about the prices and they will help you understand more of what to expect.
