Historical Prices for Bead Cat

Bead catalytic converters often look more valuable than they are — mostly because of their size. But don’t be fooled! These converters are filled with small ceramic beads (instead of honeycomb bricks), and when you shake them, you’ll hear a sand-like sound. That’s the beads moving inside, which gives these converters their name.

Bead Cats usually cost between $15 and $300, depending on their size, condition, and bead content. While some yards may overlook them or underpay for them, our team at RRCats is trained to identify and properly grade them.

Important: If the beads or the converter empties are removed, their value drops significantly. We recommend keeping the unit fully intact — we’ll pay much more when the converter is complete and unaltered.

What Is a Bead Catalytic Converter?

A Bead Cat is a style of catalytic converter filled with tiny ceramic beads instead of the more common honeycomb structure. While these cats may be physically large, they don’t always contain as much precious metal as expected. That’s why accurate grading is key.

When shaken, you should hear a soft rattling or sand-like noise — this indicates the internal beads are still intact. Removing the beads before selling will drastically lower the value, so leave the converter sealed and send us photos for a proper quote.
