Copper Theft: Rockaway Recycling Featured on CNBC

Posted: August 7, 2013

As a scrap yard that takes pride in how they operate, we were honored to be interviewed by CNBC recently on copper theft and how it is affecting the industry. As a yard that makes sure to take all proper ID and to instruct our customers that we will not buy scrap metal without ID, we want to make a real difference.

Copper theft is a problem that is becoming more and more rampant across the US and the world not only because of the economy still being in a bit of downturn, but also because the increase in commodity prices the last few years have made it a larger target for thieves.

With copper prices always fluctuating they have been able to make a very easy and quick profit for thieves that can take material and sell it quickly for cash. There are many scrap yards that still want to buy items that they are not supposed to buy and because of that there are thieves that will keep stealing.

I was recently interviewed by CNBC on this subject and if you would like to read the entire article click here: Copper Theft.
