4 Easy Places to Find Copper Scrap
Posted: January 14, 2021
We are always asked about our most popular metal, copper, and where to find it. So today I want to go over all of the different places that you can find copper scrap, as well as where you can find copper inside of other types of scrap metals.
Easy Places to Find Copper Scrap:
- Construction Sites – At many construction sites there will be leftover copper pipe and copper wire, and if you are able to befriend or get to know the General Contractor on the job you might be able to work out a deal for the scrap. Make sure you ALWAYS ask for permission to get the scrap before just going in and taking it out…this would be the most serious way for you to get in trouble.
- Large Demolition Job Sites – While many demo companies rely on the scrap to be able to make money on the job sites, sometimes there is “scrap” from the scraps. A lot of these demo sites have the smaller items get pushed off to the side and sometimes you may be able to scoop them up.
- County/Town Clean-Outs – Often your town or county will hold large cleanouts where your neighbors may be putting a lot of valuable metals out to the curb…and this is where you come in. With all types of copper wires and old copper pipes that get thrown out (YES PEOPLE DO THROW THEM OUT!)…you can be on the lookout to grab these hot items.
- Auctions – There are many auctions both on the internet and in-person that you can go to and grab old lots of copper and other types of scrap metals.
With so many opportunities out there to find copper, you want to make sure that you are always doing the right thing while gathering your copper up. Make sure to ask permission before taking it, and never try to cut any type of copper wire from a building without having an electrician certify that there is no electricity.
Important To Separate It Right
There are a lot of places to grab copper from, but make sure that you sort and separate your copper is always high on your priority list. When you bring your copper to Rockaway Recycling (with some of the top copper prices!) it’s important to have your copper separated. That will help us pay the top price for your copper when you are cashing in
