Necessary Tools for Scrapping

Posted: January 22, 2014

When you are out on a scrap search or even on a job site where you might find scrap, you want to make sure that you have the right tools for any job. You never know what you cross your path!

Tools like these will help in any situation

Some basic tools you might need for any type
of project include:

  • Hammer
  • Screwdriver
  • Wrench
  • Drill

These simple tools will come in handy all of the time. Whether you are working on an HVAC project, auto repairs or are on a scrap hunt, you may need one of these tools at the drop of a hat.

A magnet is one of the most important scrapping tools. To find out if your metals are worth any money throw a magnet on it. If it sticks then your metal is likely to not be worth much but if it does not stick then you are in luck because your metal will be worth money. If the magnet sticks to your metal it is likely that it is steel. Although we do not pay for steel unless it is over 500 pounds we can properly recycle it for you.

Use the Magnet Test!

Wire strippers can come in handy when you have a lot of insulated wires. Usually underneath the plastic or rubber casing there is bare bright wire. If the wires are thicker than a pencil we recommend stripping it to get more cash for scrap wires. By stripping your wires you will be able to make a lot more money at the scale. You can see the difference in prices on our website where we update them daily.

You may also want to invest in a sawzall tool, truck ramps and hand trucks for heavier items, and a trailer (so you can get more out of your time spent)! By keeping these tools with you at all times you will be saving energy and time when you are working or scrapping. For more scrapping tricks and hints you can always check out our YouTube page. We post a weekly scrap tip to help you learn and earn more.
