Latest “How-To” Video Shows Wire Separation

#1 Bare Bright Copper Wire (Stripped)

Rockaway Recycling’s YouTube channel has several different videos giving viewers more information about how to scrap correctly, therefore how to make more money while doing it.

The latest video posted is “How-To” separate different types of wire. There are several types of wire out there, below we compiled a small list of some different types that you may come across throughout a normal scrapping day.

Insulated Steel BX- used in older homes for electric, outside is magnetic and inside has copper- $0.15/lb.
Romex Wire- used by electricians, covered in plastic- $0.90/lb.
Insulated Copper Wire (Cat 5/6) or Data Wire- used for internet, phone, data, computers, etc.- $0.80/lb
Insulated Cable- heavier loads of electric, run power to homes and buildings- $2.05/lb.
500-750 MCM (Bare Bright Copper Wire Inside)- thick cable used for telephone lines- $2.40/lb.
#2 Copper Wire- rip outs of old electric, has paint, solder, brass joints on it- $2.25/lb.
#1 Bare Bright Copper Wire- used for all kinds of electric, stripped of insulation- $2.75/lb.

As shown in the video below, it is better to separate your wire before coming to Rockaway Recycling that way you can make the most money from the material you have with you. If you have the ability to also strip wire it will make you more money. Any questions feel free to post.
